More info
Around 8-9 years ago I was listening to a Phil Keaggy instrumental album called "Electric Blue". I so enjoyed this kind of musical concept that I immediately dropped the vocal material I was working on at the time and started writing a pile of instrumentals.
The project began only as an experiment at the time until I realized I had enough to create a whole album. I had such fun putting this together; using different amps and guitars and fx units. Would you believe, the guitar solos in the first and third track were played through an old valve radio I picked up for $12.00 Of course I had to rip out the rf first stage and connect the guitar socket directly to the amplifier stage. It couldn't have put out more than 3 Watts.
Many of the song titles have some sort of meaning too: take Gum'n'Tack (Trk1); I think I heard someone once talking about restoring his boat, telling of how he just used a 'bit of gum' and 'a few tacks' to put it back together again. I thought "Hmmm... songs can be a bit like that". And Trk8, Hot April, reminiscent of the very hot April we had in South Oz in 2000. It's hard to forget - the temperatures were above normal for that time of year. And who's "Lucille" in Trk11's "Sing To Me Again,'Lucille'"?. Well, one of my guitars is a copy of BB King's guitar he so affectionately called 'Lucille'. Naturally it's the guitar I used in this song.
Well, there's a lot more I could say. But at present I am working on 2 new instrumental albums, both quite different to Sierra Cruise In Blue. They are more predominantly synth driven, with some electric guitar with a kind of 'sci-fi' feel to the music , probably under the ambient/ electronic/experimental genre, or the newly announced rocktronic genre. I should see the first one out in 2010.
