From the Adelaide avant-blues band Precious Memories to Melbourne and the Trip, Henry has shared stages with Paul Kelly, Jo Camilleri and Kate Ceberano. Recently he supported Renee Geyer and is a regular headliner at Dizzy’s Jazz Club in Melbourne. Other recent highlights include performances with The Steve Sedergreen Ensemble. Henry’s debut album “Shiver” was recorded with a line up that included Australian Jazz legends Bob Sedergreen and Geoff Kluke, and was released in 2001.
Henry and the Trip played a sold out show dedicated to Nina Simone at Fortyfive Downstairs, produced two successful shows for The Melbourne Fringe Festival, and launched their new album “Bijou Box” to a packed house at Dizzy’s, Soup Plus in Sydney and The Governor Hindmarsh in Adelaide. Most recent highlights include "Brainville - The Sun Ra Tribute," and The Adelaide Fringe Festival 2006. A live performance and interview from the ABC studios can be found on the DIG internet radio website.
“Henry’s music is very individual and very spaced out and very physical and very OUT THERE.”
– Dave Graney.
“Manetta’s vocal improvisations have to be heard to be believed.”
– Beat Magazine.
“Witty, clever, tremendous music.”
- Martin Lesley, Jazz Rivers, 3MBS FM.
“Every tune on this recording explores rhythmic variations that are definitely ‘outside the square’….after decades spent worrying about vocalists who take no chances, playing it straight between very narrow parameters, this is a breath of fresh air……Alternately manic, hilarious and ultra-cool, this is good, good, good.” – From a review of ‘Bijou Box’ by Ron Spain, Jazz Scene Magazine
"Henry inhabits a seemingly conventional jazz world of piano, bass and drums, but he bends it out of recognisable shape even as he bends the syllables and harmonies until they surrender or snap."
- John Shand, The Sydney Morning Herald.
