More info
Transmogrify is the debut album of Adam Rudegeair, Melbourne pianist, composer, and sometimes vocalist. The album features Scott Hay on drums, Indra Buraczewska on bass, and Pete Mitchell (Bomba) on sax. New Jazz Underground icon Henry Manetta makes a startling appearance on the track "Argyle Girl". Kate Vigo (vocals), Rod Campbell (trumpet) and Neil Boland (guitar) are also featured in guest spots.
Adam's musical background stems from a childhood immersed in his mother's jazz collection. Since then his influences snake through many different spheres, exemplified by groups as diverse as Sun Ra, Medeski Martin and Wood, Prince, Harry Connick Jr, Dr John, Danny Elfman, Thelonious Monk, and the Pharoahs.
Having completed a film degree in Queensland in 1999, Adam returned home to Melbourne and studied jazz under Steve Sedergreen. Since then he has been contantly gigging at home and interstate with several groups, namely Henry Manetta and the Trip, the 9-piece funk orchestra Rhymes with Donkey, and his own jazz quartet.
Transmogrify is a showcase for Adam's compositions and lyrics, which deftly blend groove based jazz with strikingly modern styles. Free-form funkin for all the family!
