 More info

Sinbad Ranch is Stephen Lomas's follow up to his 1999 release Mermaids. It pushes the envelope of "folk+plus" to include elements of country, rock & jazz with Stephen's basic folk & funk style.

Development of the album proved to be an act of faith & emails. Basic recording was initiated in Los Angeles with some very talented musicians adding tracks off-site. By this time Lomas had moved back home to Australia from where he added some guitar tracks & the engineer had relocated his studio to Nashville. Thanks to the skill & patience of Steve Goodie of Punch Sound Studios the resulting mixes sound as if all the musicians involved actually met each other.

Stephen Lomas typically performs "live, loud & alone", his guitar occasionally augmented with a harmonica. For Sinbad Ranch he enlisted three talented contributors. Steve Goodie of Punch Sound Studios added bass & drums as well as managing the recording process. Tim Horrigan, who co-produced Mermaids, added his usual superb piano & keyboards John McDuffie, who tours with the Rita Coolidge band among others was enlisted for his incredible pedal steel & slide guitar work.

I haven't played it enough yet to hear the music in my sleep, but I think I will be! I'm enjoying it and plan to share it with friends. Great gravely voice. (all those Marboro's might not be so good for your health, though!)
