Strap yourself in as the deluxe hotrod garage of Dom Mariani & The Majestic Kelp’s Music To Chase Cars By hits the mean streets.
The freaked out instrumental stylin’s of guitar pop wunderkind Mariani (Stems, DM3, Someloves) crash between the guard rails of Morricone, psychedelic fuzz, swampy blues and surf as The Kelp and a posse of innocent bystanders careen through 11 tracks of infectious, vintage sounds and once again prove groove and melody are kings of the highway.
The journey begins with the relaxed cruise of “Drivin’ South” as blues guitar legend Dave Hole climbs aboard with his vintage dobro and we are introduced to new Kelp keyboardist, Tobias Gosfield, we then head to where “Occhilupo” surfs the wave to outta-space. The motor starts to rev as “Run Cheetah Run” pushes the pedal to the metal and Billy Rogers’ (Last Chance Café, Zydecats, Dragon) wild saxophone weighs in against Dom’s fuzz guitar. We click on the cruise control with “Kelp Are Go!” and take in the chiming scenery of “The Byrds Have Flown”. Weaving along ‘Swampwater Drive” and a nod along the way to Hank B Marvin with “Off The Top Of My Head”. The Kelp hit “Red Road Speedway” in a spark spitting full-tilt showdown. The peak hour buzz of “Traffic Jam City” leads the boys to drift skyward to the moonscape of “Moondozer”’s baritone guitars riding the desert winds of “Black Impala” home. This is not a journey for the faint hearted.
Recorded at Kingdom Sudios (Perth, Aust) and mixed by the legendary Mark Neill (Los Straightjackets, Deke Dickerson) at Soil Of The South Studios (San Diego, USA). Music To Chase Cars By is an extraordinary follow up to the band’s 2003 debut, Underwater Casino.
