Featuring Eugene Ball (trumpet), Ian Whitehurst (tenor sax), Joe Talia (drums) and ARIA Award winner Andrea Keller (piano), this long established Quartet have solidified a unique chamber music-like approach to their improvisations and compositions
Andrea Keller: jazz pianist/composer 27th July 1973 Winner of the inaugural MCA/Freedman Foundation Jazz Fellowship, Andrea spent much of 2002 studying and performing throughout Europe and the UK. She was nominated for Jazz Performer of the Year at the 2003 Bell Awards. Her album ‘Thirteen Sketches’ (The Andrea Keller Quintet) won the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album 2002, and ‘Mikrokosmos’ (Andrea Keller’s Bartok Project) won the Bell Award for Best Australian Contemporary Jazz Album 2003 and the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album 2003. Her recent release ‘Angels and Rascals’ (The Andrea Keller Quartet) received a nomination for Best Jazz Album at the 2005 ARIA’s.
Andrea regularly performs at all major Australian jazz festivals and clubs with leading contemporary jazz ensembles. She has received commissions from the Melbourne International Women's Jazz Festival, Mike Nock's BigSmallBand and The Australian Art Orchestra and currently lectures at the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University, Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne pianist and composer Keller has led this rewarding group of well-matched friends for some years (with a couple of changes). Their music is both friendly and deep. Their colours and textures are brilliantly recorded on this disc, their best I think.
