DAVE PRIOR - BROADCASTERS HALL OF FAME – INDUCTEE 2005 (Australian Country Music Foundation’s Honour Roll)

"His latest offering is just as smooth and pleasing as we have come to expect from this West Australian country performer; in fact, I think, like a good red wine, he gets smoother with age – "

DEBORAH MINTER, CAP NEWS

" Dave Prior is known to fans of country music through his weekly radio show TODAY’S BEST COUNTRY on the ACE Radio Network & 8HA Alice Springs, and through his previous nationally syndicated show Coast to Coast. It’s what Dave calls his ‘game of golf’… it’s what he likes to do on the weekend.

Dave is also recognised as a fine singer of country and follows the success of his albums Wind in the Wire and Sand & Sea with his third recording, Barbed Wire Fences, putting to rest the rumour that Prior Engagements was to be the album title. The single, Wind in the Wire was nominated for Best Heritage Song at the 2000 Australian Country Music Awards and the album made the Top 50 chart. Three songs from Sand & Sea made the Top 30 with the title track going to Number 10. Barbed Wire Fences features 10 original songs, a new Merle Haggard song, a duet featuring Mia Royce and, again, Australian Idol’s Courtney Murphy contributed with keyboard and vocals.

A number of tracks on each of the albums were co-written with Ian Heydon. Dave and Ian first got together to collaborate on a song for Willy Nelson. Willy didn’t record it but Heydon and Prior take comfort in the fact that was probably because they didn’t send it to him. Many of the songs were co-written using the Internet. Apart from not writing face-to-face being kinder to their livers, it is a necessity as the live on opposite coasts. Dave and Ian also co-write radio comedy, something that began over a decade ago with the award-winning series, The Year My Country Broke. This year they are again nominated for an Australian Radio Industry Award for their syndicated comedy, The Walkabout Man.

The first single ‘Looking For Something’, taken from the album ‘Barbed Wire Fences’ became a Top 20 hit. The new single ‘Barbed Wire Fences’ has already found success, currently in the Top 20, and is receiving great reaction from the listening audience with solid airplay nationally. He’s excellent in both words and music. Congratulations Dave ."

– ROLAND LANZARONE, RCF-Rouen Radio/Le Cri du Coyote magazine

Dave, this album is a real credit to you. The first track, "Shack Attack" is brilliant and as I now live at the "Shacks" in Port Augusta, I have bought this album for all my friends who live here. We now use this song Friday nights for "Happy Hour" as our antham. The rest of the album is also exceptional and a pleasure to listen to again and again. Well done!
