Rooted in Melbourne's Inner North and West, Bellbird is an unconventional pop group that has been actively performing and recording since 2006.
Formerly known as The Vile Reign, the band’s six members hail from town and country; Central Victoria's Goldfields, Gippsland's First City, Metropolitan Melbourne and the Western Fringe of Paris, France. Consisting of electric, acoustic and bass guitars, cello, electronic keyboards and drums, the sometimes slow-pop sextet invoke pastoral landscapes and matters of the heart with their jaunty ditties and weary laments. Lovers of J. Richman, early R.E.M, The Smiths, Velvets, Satie, Hemingway and Zimmerman should find comfort here.
Bellbird completed it's self-titled, debut album in mid 2009 under the guidance of respected singer-songwriter/producer Andrew McSweeney, at his Living Music Studios in North Melbourne. More recently, a video was made for the album's opening track "Loose your Mind".
